July 2007 Edition of Peak Performance

Welcome to the July 2007 Edition of Peak Performance

As we all know this is the age of information. But often we are just learning more with each new study about things that are common sense. But as Voltaire said “Common sense is not always so common.”
This month we examine some of what current science is telling us, or for many people re-affirming what we already know.
In the body edition we see what it really means to be training functionally - that doesn’t mean doing a bicep curl while standing on a stability ball. We also look at new research that supports the theory that weight gain is a result of high insulin levels. Then we re-examine the importance of goal setting and look at a new website I recently came across - which I believe can be a great tool for defining and achieving your goals called My50.
Hope you have a great month!

3D Training – The essence of functional training
Weight-loss secret – The role of insulin in weight-loss
My50 Website review – A great site for realising your goals
Diet Cola and Mentos – A lethel combination

The june edition of Peak Performance Newsletter is out! This month we focus on the helath of the eye's. Here is the introduction, you can view the newsletter by going to http://www.3dpts.com/Newsletter.htm

Welcome to the June 2007 Edition of Peak Performance

“The face is the picture of the mind as the eyes are its interpreter.”
Cicero (106-43 B.C)

“The eyes are the mirror of the soul” is a timeless statement. What an amazing gift the eyes are. Considering how visual we are and the world is today, eyes play such a role in most peoples’ lives that they are the ruling perceiver.

But what happens when they start to lose their power? What are our options for regaining our sight? Glasses, contact lenses and laser treatments all come at a cost. But what if there were natural strategies and techniques to improve our eyesight?

This month in Peak Performance we examine them and again ask the question who do trust? Conventional medicine that says there are no natural means to help eyesight or the natural practitioners who believe there are.

So if your eyes are starting to fade, then we hope to provide some valuable insights into this controversial topic.

Hope you have a great month!

Natural techniques to healthier eyes – Discover a natural method to better eyesight

Eye controversy – conventional medicine vs. alternatives

Iridology – The Windows to the soul, mind, and body

Not for the faint hearted – Don’t try this at home, it is very wrong!

Enjoy!

Well we finally got the new Peak Performance Newsletter out!!!!

To view it on the website go to: http://www.3dpts.com/Newsletter.htm

Here is an article I wanted to highlight as the anti-smoking push is really making waves in Europe. Naturally I think it is great news. I suppose I am used to in Australia eating my dinner or going to a sporting event smoke free - so it was a shock moving to Europe.

Currently Europe is undergoing another major shift in attitude towards smoking. Ireland recently outlawed smoking in pubs, many pubs in the UK are following suit, and now parts of Germany are becoming smoke-free. This is the reaction to the following statistics:

Smoking is the single most preventable cause of early death in the world
9 out of 10 cases of lung cancer are caused by smoking
Smoking is the biggest avoidable risk factor for cancer

Now you probably knew those statistics, especially if you live in Australia with all the anti smoking commercials – here are some lesser known statistics.
Cigarette smoke contains around 4,000 compounds, and most are toxic including:
Acetone – great for removing nail polish (and destroying vital organs)
Ammonia – ask your dry cleaner how important this chemical is to business and getting rid of those irremovable stains
Benzene – vital ingredient to keep your car going (not so good for you), it’s linked to leukemia
Cadmium – that battery powered energizer bunny just wouldn’t be the same without it
Formaldehyde – one day they will probably give you a heavy dose of this chemical, but for now best to leave it to the recently dead .
There are numerous resources to quit that many smokers have tried. I did smoke for a while (when I was really cool), but fortunately it never stuck for me.
Most quitters will say it comes down to pure willpower, but if you haven’t tried yet, then some helpers can be:
Going through a good detox
Hypnosis
Allen Carr has written a book that has helped many people including clients of mine called “ Easy Way to Quit Smoking”
However one of the reasons against quitting smoking for some people is the weight gain that can come as a result. Therefore I believe it is imperative to examine your current nutritional and exercise habits to help the quitting process as much as possible. Why?
Exercise is without question one of the most effective ways to reduce stress, and vital when those cravings kick in. Exercise is also excellent in helping the detoxification process through sweat.
Eating supportive meals comprised of fibrous carbohydrates (vegetables), protein (quality meat), good fats and oils (like olive oil) and unprocessed starchy carbohydrates (like brown rice) will help reduce blood sugar spikes and cravings.
Incorporating these two factors will keep your weight optimal, reduce your stress levels and help return your body to health.
Just go to your local supermarket and you will see most foods sold today are processed, in other words you will see a label and they may even have words on it

Welcome to the March 2007 edition of Peak Performance

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!”
Rocky BalboaSpeaking to his son in Rocky Balboa (2006)

Never the poet was Rocky (or Sylvester Stallone) - but the inspiration these movies became for the underdog is legendary (Rocky Balboa, the number 6 of the Rocky series) is hitting cinemas. Since the Rocky films were such an inspiration to me growing up boxing and martial arts, I wanted to share a couple of the great montages. But never taking ourselves too seriously I have included a funny spin of the Rocky montage – this guy has seen the movies a few too many times and taken it a bit too literally :)

This month we also examine this thing called “Functional Training” – is it just another buzz word, or can it really make a difference in freeing up our bodies. This article is also a part of my new e-book (soon to be released) called “The 21 Day Roadmap to Health”. We also looked at the dangers at processed foods and those nasty e-numbers.
Have a great month!

This month:
Functional Training – What does it mean and how can it help us?
Food Additives – What’s really lurking in that ready made meal?
Rocky Montages – Get ready to start shadow boxing again – he’s back!
A Modern Day Rocky – This guy may have taken it too far – very funny though.

Enjoy!
